20.04 desktop installation issues

I am brand new to Linux.
I have a HPpavillion laptop with windows 8.1
I am trying to install Linux 20.04 Desktop to replace windows.
so I have Rufus and used it to create a usb boot drive,
when I try to boot I hit esc and go into the area to switch the boot device to USB hit enter
and I get this message

“reloc offset is out of the segment”

not sure where I go from here, any help woud be greatly appreciated.

Hi Aceman,

Welcome to our forums.

From what I gathered so far, the issue you describe may be related to drive titles. Does this message show up in your BIOS configuration, and it does not allow you to set the USB device as boot device?
