Correction to command line installation:
$ sudo apt install thunderbird
(lower case ‘t’)

This installs version 68 not 78. How do you install up to date version of Thunderbird. Both ways installs old version.

Welcome to our forums.

Since Thunderbird version 78 is not packaged into Ubuntu’s repositories, if you would like to install it, you can download the tarball from the Thunderbird site. Note however, that this way the application get out of the package manager’s site, so you’ll need to update it by yourself.
