How to install Ubuntu 20.04 on VirtualBox - LinuxConfig.org

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to install Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa in a VirtualBox virtual machine. You'll be able to follow along with this guide whether you are using Windows, Ubuntu, or some other Linux distribution. Configuration of VirtualBox and the installation of Ubuntu 20.04 itself stays very consistent across various platforms.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-ubuntu-20-04-on-virtualbox

I followed this tutorial from a windows 10 home edition.
I want to have a VM running ubuntu, but every time I tried I got this error:

Could not open a session to the virtual machine Ubuntu 20.04.

Not in a hypervisor partition (HVP=0) (VERR_NEM_NOT_AVAILABLE).

VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED).

How do I make it work?

Hi Freja_S,

Welcome to our forums.

From the error messages you posted I would suggest you enable VT-X in your BIOS, which is needed to run virtualization on recent hardware. This option is disabled by default on laptops and desktops.
