On executing the first command i get this:

Package php-mcrypt is a virtual package provided by:
php7.0-mcrypt 7.0.28-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 [Not candidate version]

E: Package 'php-mcrypt' has no installation candidate

I’ve just ran the entire installation with nginx and the php-mcrypt could be omitted. Article is now updated. thank you for reporting it!
