Hi,

I’m trying to install kubuntu-desktop on my ubuntu server 18.04.1 LTS and is impossible for me.

I installed tasksel and it doesnt appear kubuntu-desktop when I try to install it.

Can you tell me how do you install it?

I wait for your answer.

Thanks.

Igor.

Be careful, this will remove whatever you previously installed!!! I think it should be warned on top of this guide!

It is becuse the auther did not specify that you need to enable the universe repo.
sudo add-apt-repository universe
then
sudo apt update
then you can do.

sudo apt install install lubuntu-core
and if you want more tools, you could do.
sudo install lubuntu-desktop
then
sudo service lightdm start

How do you remove the GUI?

Need to update the post by practically reviewing the install process again !

apt autoremove ‘name of repository’

for example: apt autoremove ubuntu-desktop

A good tip here is that you can disable the desktop during boot. So you will only have the number of processes running for your server with no overhead of the (a) desktop.

sudo systemctl set-default multi-user

If you need the desktop back in the future just login and run - sudo service lightdm start - or the command that starts your desktop. When finished - sudo service lightdm stop - then - exit

lightdm or gdm or kdm … depends on the desktop you originally choose.
