Linux Projects for practice

Hi all,
Please advise me. I am new in the Linux field. I’m looking for Linux projects to improve my skills. Where can I Contribute to open-source projects in Linux?

Best Regards
Frank

Hello,

Some tips:

1. Check out GitHub and GitLab

  • GitHub and GitLab host tons of open-source projects. You can search for beginner-friendly tasks by looking for labels like good first issue or help wanted. Find something that interests you and dive in!

2. Linux Kernel (if you’re into hardcore stuff)

  • If working on the Linux kernel excites you, check out The Linux Kernel Newbies Guide. It’s a great place for beginners to learn how to contribute.

3. Get Involved with Your Favorite Linux Distro

  • Love a specific Linux distro? Most of them have ways for you to contribute:

4. Fix Bugs and Test Stuff

  • If you’re not ready to code, you can help by testing software and reporting bugs. Tools like Bugzilla let you submit bug reports and even help fix them.

5. Join Desktop Projects

  • Big desktop environments like KDE and GNOME are always looking for people to help with development, testing, or even just writing docs or translating stuff.

6. Help with Documentation

  • Not ready to dive into code yet? Contributing to documentation is an awesome way to get started. Lots of projects could use help updating guides, fixing typos, or improving instructions.

7. Programs Like Outreachy and Google Summer of Code

8. Contribute to Apps You Already Use

  • Do you have a favorite Linux app? Check if they’re open-source and see if you can contribute! Most projects are super welcoming and happy to have new contributors.

9. Linux Forum

  • Alternatively, you can help out here on this Linux Forum by answering some questions.
