Once you start the steam application you might expect to see the steam application window to pop up. If the window does not appear, which is the case with GNOME desktop manager, use mouse to right-click on the top-right steam icon.
I just installed 18.04 on my PC and I had this problem too. I checked for steps on how to do it. I purged steam and removed the shared files on my directory. I reinstalled it and that solved my problem. You might want to give it a try.

i run this commend line $ sudo apt install wget gdebi-core libgl1-mesa-dir:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 i face like this–

E: Unable to locate package libgl1-mesa-dir:i386
Then i run —wget httpmedia.steampowered./client/installer/steam.deb
Next i run this —sudo gdebi steam.deb
sudo: gdebi: command not found
I didn’t get the steam yet so anyone can help me pls…
I have just checked on one of my Ubuntu 18.04 machines, and the apt command you got error from installed all the packages without problem. So the issue could be on your end. Did you make changes on your default repositories? Is your system up to date? These are the first two possible causes I can think of.
